Paris Branch--County of Brant Public Library
PART OF THE COUNTY OF BRANT PUBLIC LIBRARY'S WRITER-IN-RESIDENCE SERIES WITH KRISTA FOSS Beyond the Book Club: Strategic Reading for Writers It’s a truism that great writers are also great readers--but what does that look like practically? This workshop takes a strategic approach to reading that will push your writing forward by exploring how to curate a reading list specific to your writing needs and goals. Topics such as the dos and don’ts of marginalia, reading logs, companion texts, book clubs and reading outside of your comfort zone will be discussed. Come prepared to talk about books that have made a big impact on you, and ones you are afraid to read. Space in this workshop is extremely limited; you must register to attend. Click here to register online or call the Paris Branch Library at 519-442-2433.

Nature Advocate Volunteer

Jan 01, 2017 07:30 AM - 08:00 PM
Paris trails
Soar into the new year with your community efforts! Volunteer in Brantford, Brant County, and Norfolk trails or in your back yard. Work in a beautiful natural setting. Contribute to your community. Meet new people who share your interests. Work as part of a team. Apply your skills and abilities in a meaningful way. Hundreds of volunteers contribute many hours each year to share in collecting data on bird species, health concerns related to our habitats, and nature conservation. Join these enthusiastic people who are giving their time and talents to support Bird Studies Canada and Audubon. How it Works: 1. Count and log the number of bird species you see. 2. Send in your count with your location. 3. If your hiking, be sure to dress warm and log bird species one way to avoid double counting on the way back. 4. If your hiking, send along your trail location footprints. We support our local natural habitat and species. Contact us if you would like to join in our bird counting hike, Sunday January 1st starting at 7:30am in the SC Johnson Trailhead.

Whether you’re talking about her as a songwriter, guitarist or vocalist, one thing is indisputable: Hamilton’s Terra Lightfoot is a ferocious talent. Her songs tap into the raw emotion of hearts supercharged by love, lust, loneliness and temptation. Her playing melds expert finger-picking and distorted, hook-heavy melodies. And her elemental voice commands attention and awe, whether on slow-burning soul ballads or hard-charging rock numbers.

The DT Concert Series is thrilled to welcome JUNO-Award Winner Rose Cousins to the stage on February 14! Tickets for Rose Cousins are available HERE! Listen to Rose Cousins' beautiful 'Go First' - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdI1qj851BU Driven by a voice that evokes raw emotion, Rose Cousins’ music bravely explores the shadowy corners of the heart. Just as her songs embrace sadness, pain, and longing, these emotions are counterbalanced in performance by quick, wry wit. A native of Prince Edward Island, she lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia, deeply values being part of multiple music communities, and is fueled by collaboration. Her 2012 album "We Have Made A Spark" won a JUNO Award, 3 East Coast Music Awards, a Canadian Folk Music Award, was nominated for the Polaris Music Prize, and made picks/best of lists in USA Today, NPR Music and Oprah Magazine. DT Concert Series Presents Jeremy Fisher and The Small Glories!

Mar 23, 2017 07:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Dominion Telegraph Event Centre
The DT Concert Series is thrilled to welcome Jeremy Fisher and The Small Glories to the stage on March 23! Tickets for Jeremy Fisher and The Small Glories are available HERE! Listen to Jeremy Fisher's 'Uh-Oh (featuring Serena Ryder)' here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=himEn9j5_Gs Fisher, who has twice been nominated for a Juno award, pairs his trademark wit and whimsy lyricism with folk-drenched musical roots to offer a throwback to the golden era of the singer-songwriter. Jeremy Fisher has never really been one to build his career by travelling down the most obvious — or easiest — paths. His commitment to touring by bike is a case in point. Since 1998 he has completed the journey across North America an astonishing three times, and in 2010 he launched a unique tour of the west coast called The Malahat Revue with fellow artists Said the Whale, Hannah Georgas, and Aidan Knight. Together, they travelled by bike with gear in tow, and pedaled roughly 500km across British Columbia.

DT Concert Series Presents Justin Rutledge!

Apr 13, 2017 07:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Dominion Telegraph Event Centre
The DT Concert Series is thrilled to welcome Justin Rutledge to the stage on April 13! Tickets for Justin Rutledge are available HERE! Listen to Justin Rutledge's 'The Ascension' here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eltQtLc_jcg Rutledge's other albums include No Never Alone(2004), The Devil On A Bench In Stanley Park (2006), Man Descending (2008), The Early Widows (2010) and Daredevil, his homage to The Tragically Hip (2014). He has twice been nominated for a Juno Award, and twice been long-listed for the prestigious Polaris Music Prize. Valleyheart, Rutledge's first release on Outside Music, earned the Juno Award for Roots Album of the year in 2014. "Go West, Young Man, Go West", an expression coined in the 1800s, could easily be rephrased and applied to Juno Award Winner Justin Rutledge to read, "Go East, Young Man, Go East", as that, quite literally, is what Justin Rutledge has done. His new album, aptly titled EAST, signifies not only his personal transition in moving away from the only city he's ever lived, but also, recording in the east, his first time making an album outside of Toronto.
