Preserving our HERitage: History from the Womyn's Perpesctive

May 08, 2017 10:00 AM - Jul 02, 2017 04:00 PM
Adelaide Hunter Hoodless Homestead/Brant Historical Society
The Adelaide Hunter Hoodless Homestead (St. George, ON) and the Brant Historical Society (Brantford, ON) are partnering for a joint exhibit titled “Preserving our HERitage: History from the Womyn’s Perspective.” The exhibit is about Women’s Institutes history, with focus on how WIs have recorded their own history. Both museums showcase the many accomplishments by WI groups which have existed for over one hundred years. Over the years WIs have recorded their own history in many ways including minute books, magazines, Tweedsmuir scrapbooks and other history books. Both museums have a different story to tell about Women’s Institutes. The Brant Historical Society displays the history of the local WIs within Brant County. The Adelaide Hunter Hoodless Homestead, as the birthplace of WI co-founder Adelaide Hoodless and the office of the Federated Women’s Institutes of Canada, will display how the WIs started and how they developed into the large organization it is today. Visit both locations and learn more about these groups of inspiring Canadian women. The exhibit is open from May 8th until June 30th, 2017. See any location first to receive a ticket valid at both museums. Location: Adelaide Hunter Hoodless Homestead, 359 Blue Lake Road, St. George, ON & Brant Historical Society, 57 Charlotte Street, Brantford, ON Date: May 8 – June 30, 2017 Hours of Operation: Monday – Thursday 10 AM – 4 PM & Sunday 1 PM – 4 PM Cost: General $15, Members $10, Youth (age 10 – 18) $8, Under age 10 FREE For more info contact: programs@adelaidehoodless.ca or 519-448-1130 & nathan.etherington@brantmuseums.ca or (519) 752-2483
